Creative humor in the bathroom

Summer is the season of every whim. Buy why reserve these whims exclusively for the kitchen, the dining room or the patio? The bathroom is an ideal place for fantasy.

Let’s start with the furnishings in case you are preparing to redo the bathroom. Designers are overflowing with imagination today. Bathtubs and sinks are taking on unexpected shapes. Add some lighting and the effect becomes mind-blowing.

It’s common to see an old piece of furniture transformed into vanity. But overlapping pink plastic bench, a bright orange pail and a round sink is quite original. The wall is also transformed with a yellow, blue, pink checkerboard panel that protects from splashing. You could choose a faux finish, like on the photo or opt for cyan blue.

There are other accessories and decorative items where there’s plenty of room for fantasy.

Yellow, pink and orange towels are stored rolled up in an equally colourful basket. Children prefer hooks, while parent will opt for plastic ones with well-rounded ends. A colour for each member of the family perhaps?

Wallpaper offers great opportunities to brighten up the bathroom. We recently saw wallpaper whose design was newspaper, giving the room’s decoration a black and white contrast. Toilet paper is not left out either. Like wallpaper, it comes with surprising designs: newspaper, cartoons, Sudoku.

You can also change the atmosphere of a bathroom. Find an original bath mat and paint a single wall using the same colour. It’s always easier to adapt the colour of a wall to a mat than it is to find a mat that fits the colour of the bathroom.

You can also cover a shade with fabric that is the same colour of the towels. Add a professional touch with a satin finish.

A curtain panel suspended from a pivoting rod near the toilet creates some privacy.

Many designers are seeking to create the illusion of a waterfall running through the bathroom. That’s why we see more and more water flowing through the ducts, which creates a sensation of freshness. A bluish ray of light on part of the wall or behind a white veiled panel has a calming effect.

Once you’ve started, why not add some pots or false grass?

Human beings have an innate need for fantasy. The bathroom is part of that fantasy.
